History of Château Lynch-Bages

Château Lynch-Bages has its origins around 1749, when the Irish Lynch family settled in the region and gave the estate its name. As one of the fifth crus classés in the legendary 1855 Bordeaux classification, the château has since enjoyed a respected status in the wine world. Over the centuries the estate was carefully managed with a continuous focus on quality and innovation. Since 1934 the Cazes family has been at the helm, further strengthening the heritage and developing Château Lynch-Bages into an absolute reference within Pauillac. Thanks to this combination of historic tradition and modern insight, the château has gained worldwide fame and is among the most recognisable names in Bordeaux.

Terroir and location

Located on the left bank of the Gironde, Château Lynch-Bages benefits from an exceptional terroir within the Pauillac appellation. The vineyards sit on a plateau with gravel-rich, excellently drained soils that are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. These soils promote optimal ripeness and concentration, resulting in powerful and structured wines. The microclimate is moderated by the proximity of both the Atlantic Ocean and the river, which creates warm days and cool nights. As a result the grapes retain their freshness and aromatic precision while simultaneously developing richness and complexity.
