The main grape in these wines is Semillon, often paired with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The wine has a golden color that, after years of aging, transforms into deep amber or tea tones. Sauternes wines are known for their rich aromas, long finish, and impressive aging potential.
The region is small, but boasts several legendary estates. Château d’Yquem is the flagship, but La Tour Blanche, Rieussec, and Suduiraut have also built strong reputations.
