Listrac-Médoc is one of the smaller appellations within the Médoc Bordeaux region, located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The area is located a little further from the Gironde and is also called the 'roof of the Médoc', because of its higher position. Thanks to this altitude, the wines are distinguished by their fresh appearance and distinctive character.
The soil contains more clay and limestone than in surrounding areas. This gives the wines more structure and makes them somewhat more robust in style. Although Listrac-Médoc wines are generally less refined than those from, for example, Margaux, they are valued for their depth and aging potential.
In Listrac, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot play a key role. These grapes produce robust, rich red Bordeaux wines with notes of dark fruit, cedar, and spice. The appellation has no classified Grand Crus, but is known for a large number of excellent Cru Bourgeois producers who offer surprisingly high quality at an attractive price.
